Terry Phillips
Bio
Terry Phillips started his career like many other voice
talents, by talking to himself. At age 5, Terry "borrowed"
his father's tape recorder and began entertaining himself.
By the time he was 7 he had "interviewed"
Yoda, Kermit the Frog, and other characters through
the magic of imagination and an odd sense of humor.
His only love other than radio, was computers, owning
his own BBS before he was 13. Growing up listening to
Ken Dow, Bob Shuman, Blair Gardner, Steven's & Pruit,
Andy Barber, Kid Kraddick (starting as a night jock),
Moby in the Morning, and more of the radio great's who
went through Dallas, & collecting hotline numbers
from those stations and talking to the jocks often enough
to encourage what eventually became his career.
While in college Terry's radio career started to form.
From big stations, an internship with KZPS, to board op,
part time on air, and voices for the morning show at Y95,
KHYI... To small; weekends at KBUS, nights at KIKT &
KPLT, and mornings at KBYB...it wasn't until the computer
took over that the production world that Terry was pulled
off the air to pursue his true calling.
Starting out working with, following around, and generally
annoying amazing talents like Brian Wilson, Aubry Hayden,
Buzzy Bennett, JJ McKay and Jack Murphy in Dallas could
be the blame.
Starting at KIIM in Tucson, his ever-increasing talent
in production gained him clients, awards, and more responsibility.
By the time he left Tucson he was handling most of the
imaging for the station and had an ever-growing client
list. Then in an odd move, Terry turned down nights
at legendary WSSL, and moved to Michigan to get to know
his father, and to help sign on WFBE in Flint as Production
Director and Midday air talent. Within one book, WFBE
was #4 in the market dethroning 10 year country leader
WKCQ, and Terry himself earned the stations highest
ratings while remaining on air, scoring #1 25-54, and
number #2 12+ in that very first book. After moving
off air to handle production and imaging for the cluster
for 5 plus years at WFBE. A new decade brought about
a new path, in 2000 Terry was hired away by WYCD in
Detroit, where he remains today.
